The CancerCare of Maine and Maine Institute of Human Genetics and Health Facility building will be a five -story, rigid-frame building of approximately 25,000 square feet per floor plus a full basement. In addition to the CancerCare of Maine services, the building will include a research laboratory that will require one-half (1/2) of one floor. The remaining space that has not been defined will be two-thirds (2/3) open office plan and one-third (1/3) fixed wall construction for business occupants yet to be determined. This project will entail the relocation and enhancement of the EMMC’s comprehensive community cancer program. Project scope will include the relocation of medical and radiation oncology, hematology and specific diagnostic services-laboratory, basic imaging and PET-CT to the new facility. The new cancer center will enhance EMMC’s ability to deliver needed cancer services to the local community by expanding capacity and responding the community’s desires for ease of access, reduced waiting times and improved supportive care services.
